Remember when we thought we'd have it all figured out by now? Yeah, me too. Turns out adulting is harder than we expected. But here's the thing—there's something bigger at play here.
The Wake-Up Call
Peter wrote something powerful in 1 Peter 4:7-11. He basically said, "Life's short, so get it together." Not exactly a feel-good poster, but he had a point.
He tells us to be clear-minded and self-controlled. That's tough when I can't remember why I walked into a room. But look around. Everyone's having meltdowns on social media. We need to do better.
When Everything Feels Broken
Let me share something personal. Carolyn and I know what it's like when life feels broken. Like toys that can't be fixed. Missing pieces. Sharp edges. Beyond repair.
We've been there. Dreams shattered. Relationships cracked. Everything scattered like a messy playroom. Some days we just pick up pieces. We wonder if anything will ever be whole again.
But here's where faith matters. God sees our broken pieces and says, "I can work with this." He takes broken stuff and makes it better than new. Think of Him as running a divine workshop. He takes our messed-up metal and hammers it into something useful.
Serving Others Through Our Brokenness
Here's what we've learned. When we serve others, we find healing too. It's not about being perfect. It's about being available.
Sometimes people don't understand. They might question our motives. That's okay. Jesus faced the same thing. He served people who didn't appreciate Him. He healed people who didn't thank Him. He loved people who betrayed Him.
But He kept serving anyway. And so should we.
Your Purpose Goes Beyond Success
Purpose doesn't come from having it all together. It doesn't come from a perfect life or a fat bank account. God made you on purpose, for a purpose. Broken pieces and all.
You're not just here to pay bills and die. The Creator of the universe thought the world needed you. Even when life feels like an endless cycle. Even when you're exhausted. Even when nothing makes sense.
Three Ways to Live on Purpose
1. Get Your Personal Life in Order
Peter says be "clear-minded." That's hard in our emotion-driven world. But we need to try.
Think before you react. Ask yourself: "Am I seeing this clearly? Or are my feelings taking over?" Truth must lead, not emotions.
We also need self-discipline. When did we stop dreaming? When did "good enough" become our motto? Maybe it was when life broke us. But God specializes in fixing broken things.
Start small. Make one good choice today. Then another tomorrow. Build momentum.
2. Strengthen Your Spiritual Life
First, get your head straight. Then pray. Everything flows from prayer.
Don't just pray in emergencies. Make it a conversation. Try being specific:
- "God, help me serve others today"
- "God, show me who needs encouragement"
- "God, use my broken pieces to help someone else"
- "God, give me strength when serving gets hard"
Stop trying to do everything alone. You can't. Neither can I. We need God's power. When we're weak, He's strong.
Think about David facing Goliath. He didn't wear fancy armor. He showed up with a sling and stones. Why? Because he trusted God's power, not his own.
3. Build Real Relationships
God put you here to impact people. Not to impress them. To serve them.
Real love is "just because" love. You help because someone needs it. You serve because it's right. You give because you can.
We need people who believe in others. People who give second chances. People who don't give up on us. Be that person for someone else.
Everyone needs a mentor. Everyone needs to be a mentor. Look around. Who could use your encouragement? Who could benefit from your experience?
The Workshop of Transformation
Here's the truth about God's workshop. The process isn't comfortable. When God reshapes us, it can hurt. But something amazing happens.
The broken pieces don't just get glued together. They get transformed. They become stronger. They become useful in new ways.
That broken toy that seemed worthless? Now it's a tool that helps others. Your pain becomes someone else's hope. Your struggle becomes someone else's strength.
Serving Through the Pain
When we serve others, we find purpose. Even when it's hard. Even when we're tired. Even when we don't feel like it.
Service heals us. It connects us. It reminds us we're not alone. When we help carry someone else's burden, our own feels lighter.
Don't wait until you're "ready." Don't wait until you're "healed." Start where you are. Use what you have. Even if it's not much.
The Bottom Line
It's not about you. But it's also not against you.
It's about God's plan working through you. You're here for a reason. Your broken pieces have purpose. Your pain can help others heal.
Life's too short to waste. Yes, we're tired. Yes, we're dealing with broken pieces. But God has plans bigger than our problems.
So what are you waiting for? The perfect moment won't come. Start now. Serve someone today. Share your story. Use your broken pieces to help others.
The workshop is open. The Master Craftsman is ready. Your broken pieces are about to become something beautiful.
